Queen
Elizabeth II was born Princess Elizabeth of York on 21 April 1926 in
Mayfair, London.
The first child of The Duke and Duchess of York, she stood third in
line of succession to the throne after Edward, Prince of Wales
(eventually King Edward VIII), and her father, The Duke of York.
However, it was thought unlikely that her father would ever become
King, and therefore the likelihood of her ever becoming Queen was
low.
Named after her mother (Elizabeth
Bowes-Lyon), her paternal great-grandmother (Queen Alexandra),
and her paternal grandmother (Queen Mary),
Elizabeth Alexandra Mary was christened in the private chapel at
Buckingham Palace.
Princess Elizabeth became Queen under quite unexpected
circumstances, and since her 1953 coronation, she’s spent all of her
life in the public eye.
Now, sixty years into her reign, we on Mallow Park will be
celebrating the brilliance of our Queen of Diamonds along with
millions across the country and the Commonwealth.
